WASHINGTON, March 20 : Dr. Zulfiqar Kazmi, head of The Commongrounds organization, has expressed the hope that the newly elected Pope Francis would emphasize the message of inter-faith harmony for a peaceful world.
Taking part in a VOA program on inauguration of new Vatican leadership , Dr. Kazmi said it is very important that all religious leaders use their influence to foster an environment of tolerance and peaceful coexistence.
He hoped that Pope Francis would accord priority to efforts towards reinforcing harmony and peace in the world.
Kazmi, an eminent Pakistan–American, was speaking in the context of need for promoting the cause of peace in the world, which in the last decade has witnessed wars and violence against minorities in several parts of the world.
“It is very important that all religious leaders encourage communities around the world to have a better mutual understanding and proceed with a spirit of tolerance and harmony,” he remarked.
Kazmi, whose organization regularly hosts inter-faith events, later, said in another interview that states and societies in both the East and the West have obligation to ensure that minorities do not face discrimination and have access to fair opportunity to grow.
